Asylum of the Damned

ASYLUM OF THE DAMNED. 2004

Director: Phillip J. Jones

A young doctor (Matt Stasi) comes to work in an insane asylum, slowly discovering it is run by an evil coven of devil worshippers whose Chief Warlock Evil Doctor is played by Bruce Payne, who has definitely had better days for his film career.

The premise may sound merely stupid, but it's much worse than that. Even so, anything with Tiny Lister in it has got to be worth a little, & Tiny has quite a big role in this & is even permitted to be a hero instead of a scary giant, so I sure don't feel like I wasted my time.

The film does stink mightily, but if it hadn't tacked on such a stupid-cliche coda/ending I think it would've passed muster with a few horror fans. An ending can only be so old-hat before it destroys whatever half-ounce of creativity the rest of the film might occasionally have drummed up.

But I kind of liked the standard-issue glowy-eyed devil-monster with the wings that looked not so much leathery as like bedsheets sewn to sticks.
