LASER MISSION; aka,
SOLDIER OF FORTUNE. 1990

Laser MissionAlissa the spunky damsel (Debi Monahan), handsome hero Mike Gold (Brandon Lee), eccentric laser scientist Professor Braun with wacky unplaceable foreign accent (Ernest Borgnine), & an evil arch villain Eckhardt (Werner Pochath) have shoot-outs, car chases, fist-fights, more shoot-outs, car crashes into piles of empty cardboard boxes, kung-fu kickboxing, explosions, & loads of non-stop cliche spy action.

Director BJ Davis ("Blowjob" to his friends) also gives us a comedy relief ethnic team, Pierre Knoessen & Maureen Lahond as Manuel & Roberta, the Cuban counterspies based on the Keystone Cops. They fall in love with each other along the way. Sad to say, they're much more interesting than the main cast.

But it must be said Brandon Lee is gorgeous, & he had such a bright career ahead of him. His untimely death on a film set can leave us quite sad that his film legacy consists of The Crow (1994) & little else beyond a couple of lame actioners like Laser Mission, which has been deceptively marketed as a science fiction film. The "threat" of a James Bondian super-weapon is never for a moment an on-screen possibility, so it's cheap action thrills all the way. Watch it if you have a justifiable soft spot for Brandon.
