In outline Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter...& Spring (Bom, Yeoreum, Gaeul, Gyeowool...Geurigo Bom, 2004), a Buddhist fable, is about a child raised by a hermit monk, who when he becomes a young man leaves the hermitage for the sake of love, is betrayed by the world he finds & commits murder, serves his time in prison & returns to the hermitage to replace the old monk who has died.

But in presentation this film is a captivating meditation that verges on the fantastic without quite leaving reality behind. With very little dialog, it conveys layers of meaning & of sentiment. And it is visually so beautiful the cinematography alone causes the heart to quake.
